El Menchito sentenced to life in prison

The son of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” the founder and leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), is likely to spend the rest of his life in a U.S. federal prison.

pg9bRubén Oseguera González, known as “El Menchito,” 35, was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 additional years after a jury found him guilty of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine. During the trial, compelling evidence was presented demonstrating his involvement in various murders and kidnappings.

One of the most shocking events occurred in 2015 when “El Menchito” ordered CJNG members to shoot down a military helicopter carrying 18 soldiers and police officers in southern Jalisco. The attack resulted in at least nine deaths.

Even if El Menchito were paroled after 25 years, the additional 30 years imposed by the judge would mean he is likely to be in his 90s before any potential release.

His father, El Mencho, remains at large and has a US$20 million bounty on his head. He is believed to be hiding out somewhere in Jalisco.
