Two weeks left for free license plate exchange in Jalisco before fines begin

Jalisco vehicle owners have less than two weeks to take advantage of the free license plate exchange program before costs and fines kick in starting April.

The state finance agency reports that over 1.29 million vehicles have already completed the process, but those who paid their 2025 vehicle refrendo but haven’t swapped their plates still have time. After March 31, the replacement will cost up to 2,500 pesos, and circulating with expired plates could result in fines from state highway patrol officers.

All vehicles with the “Maguey,” “Minerva” or “Gota” designs must be replaced, including motorcycles, trailers, taxis and public transport units.

How to complete the process:

• Schedule an appointment online for any state revenue office (recaudadora) at: https://agendador-shp.jalisco.gob.mx/

• Bring original and copies of valid ID, proof of vehicle ownership, recent proof of address, refrendo payment and old plates.

• Guadalajara metro area revenue offices are open weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays until 2 p.m.; interior offices operate weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
