ORCHESTRA CATERS TO ‘GAMERS’

The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) will perform themes from TV series and video games, including “Game of Thrones,” “Super Mario Bros” and “The Legend of Zelda,” Sunday, September 5 at the Conjunto de Artes Escénicas.


Mariachi Festival not fully silenced

For the second consecutive year, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce into moving its annual International Mariachi and Charreria Festival onto digital formats, although a few live performances are still scheduled.

Unclear marijuana laws frustrate users

Marijuana advocates gathered last week in Guadalajara’s Plaza de La Liberación to smoke some weed and collect signatures for a petition to send to the nation’s health regulator (the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks or Cofepris), demanding that the agency start to issue permits allowing citizens to cultivate and consume their own cannabis.

The Mariachis de Guadalajara maintained their challenge for an historic title in their debut season in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), downing the Rieleros de Aguasclientes in game six of their divisional semi-final series.
