Last Saturday I took my seven- and nine-year-old sons to their first baseball game — the Charros de Jalisco against the Mexicali Eagles. It was my first time in a baseball stadium in more than a decade.
The Charros de Jalisco maintained their impressive start to the Mexican Pacific League season with a 3-0 weekend series win over Mexicali.
For baseball fans what better way is there to spend a Friday evening, or Saturday or Sunday afternoon, than scoffing hot dogs and sipping suds at a ballpark with a home team in high-octane form.
Kenyan athlete Hillary Kipchirchir Kimaiyo cruised to victory in the 30th Guadalajara marathon on Sunday, October 19. Meanwhile, the women’s race was won by the Mexican athlete Dulce María Rodríguez de la Cruz. Around 3,500 people participated in the annual event, which took the runners on a 26.2-mile-loop around Guadalajara and Zapopan.
Kenyan runner Joseph Ngetich garnered top honors at Jocotepec’s inaugural Carrera Panorámica, sailing across the finish line in the October 12 race in a time of 41 minutes, 33 seconds. His compatriot Ruth Kimutai nailed first place in the women’s field, clocking in at 46:43.
Guadalajara golfer Carlos Ortiz, 22, has made a bright start to his first season on the elite U.S. PGA Tour.
The Charros de Jalisco dropped their Liga Mexicana del Pacifico opener to Aguilas de Mexicali by a score of 8-1.
Mexicali scored one run in the first inning, single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and put the game away on a three-run home run by Luke Montz in the top of the 5th.
Top-notch equestrians from Mexico and the United States are saddling up to compete in the 70th Campeonato Nacional Charro, to be held Monday, October 27 through Sunday, November 16 at the Rancho Santa María arena in Tlajomulco de Zuñiga.
More than 3,000 runners are expected to take to the streets of Guadalajara this Sunday to compete in the 30th edition of the city’s marathon. Ahead of the annual event, a special meeting was held in the city to recognize the only three runners from Jalisco to have won the race in the history of the event.
