Tragic new year

A family of three died from monoxide inhalation after preparing tamales for a New Year’s Eve party in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos. Juan Catalan Peña, Maria Leticia Alejo Simon, both 47, and Karla Ivonne Catalan Alejo, 24, were heating tamales in a pot on their farm when the flame went out, allowing gas from the cooker to fill the unventilated space. The bodies were discovered by a neighbor on New Year’s Day.


Tapatios come home for the holidays

A porter pushes the luggage of arriving  passengers through Terminal One of the Guadalajara International Airport this week. With hundreds of families reuniting for the holidays, this is the busiest time of year for the facility.  Passenger traffic passing through the city airport increased by 7.4 percent between January and November 2014, according to GAP, the airport’s operators.

Road work mayhem to infest metro area in 2015

Negotiating Guadalajara’s streets and avenues is about to get a whole lot more complicated in 2015 with road works planned on various fronts.  Also compounding the task of moving around the metro area will be the continuing work on the city’s third Tren Ligero (subway) line that runs from Zapopan to Tlaquepaque.

Two dead as train hits bus at crossing

A freight train hit a bus attempting to cross a railroad track in Tlajomulco, killing two people. The crash occurred on Sunday, December 28 when the driver, following the 186 route, stopped to let a passenger off. He then failed to make it across the track before the train struck the back of the bus.
