Maestros del Arte fair beckons paradise for folk art collectors

Outstanding artisans coming from far flung corners of Mexico will showcase a a cornucopia of high quality handicrafts and folk art at the 13th annual Feria Maestros del Arte, scheduled for Friday, November 14 through Sunday, November 16 at Chapala’s Club de Yates.

Around 100 artists and village craft cooperatives will be represented at the fair, tempting shoppers and hard core collectors with a 

huge selection of handmade textiles and clothing, jewelry, ceramics, masks, household furnishings, toys and dolls, and other articles from wood, metal, paper, straw, beads, gourds and other materials.

In addition to pursuing all the sales stalls spread around sprawling fair grounds, visitors will be able to take in a fashion show and demonstration on different ways of draping the typical rebozo shawl, set for 11 a.m. each day. Tequila tasting and a variety of cool refreshments and tasty treats will be available on site to sate hunger and thirst. Menu items include tacos, hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ ribs, stuffed baked potatoes, salads and Middle Eastern dishes.

A special attraction is the Feria’s charity art raffle benefiting the Chapala Red Cross. Each participating artist contributes one sample of his or her work to go on the block for lucky ticket holders whose numbers will come up during drawings held all three days.

The Yacht Club is located at the east end of Paseo Ramón Corona, in the middle of the waterfront restaurant row. Gates open daily at 10 a.m., with activities running until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. closing time on Sunday. Admission to the fair is priced at 50 pesos per day.
