  “Blood Relations” opens Friday, October 24, 4 p.m. at Bare Stage. This electrifying play is based on the true story of Lizzie Borden, who may or may not have killed her own blood relations in Fall River, Massachusetts, in 1893. The murder remains unsolved.

Renowned playwright Sharon Pollock examines Lizzie’s motives, her relationships, and the possibility of her innocence or guilt, offering a nuanced perspective on one of America’s most notorious historical figures.

• Centro Cultural Ajijic (CCA) and the Casa de Cultura Del Valle de Zamora in Michoacan are sponsoring a painting contest focused on the theme: Dia de Muertos: Devocion, Tradicion y Simbolismo. The contest is open to Mexican citizens and expats who present recent original works that have not been previously exhibited, with a maximum of three works per artist.

• Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) will open its 61st season with the hilarious production “Menopause: The Musical,” Friday, October 3. Runs until Sunday, October 12. Matinees (Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays) at 4 p.m.; evening shows at 7:30 p.m.

The play features four women singing about “The Change” through parodies of baby-boomer classics and a four-woman chorus. The cast includes Deborah Lithander, Margaret Stricklett, Pauline Proulx, Kathleen Spaulding, Rebecca Gigante, Lynn Gutstadt, Su Elliot and Debbie Lichtenberg.

Dress rehearsal

The third concert of the Lake Chapala Orchestra’s summer series on Saturday, September 13, has sold out.

Due to overwhelming demand, the orchestra has decided to open its dress rehearsal to the community on the same day, starting at 12:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, San Lucas 19, in Riberas del Pilar. The rehearsal will last about one hour. No reservations are required, and there is no charge, although a suggested donation of 200 pesos is recommended.

Colectivo Cultural LogoGris opens its FotoSeptiembre show, featuring 22 images by local photographers, Saturday, September 6, 5 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ajijic. FotoSeptiembre is coordinated by local cultural promoter Alberto Muñoz “Betto Rock”.
