Lake Chapala’s legendary monsters

Remember back six months from now when there were reports of one or more crocodiles sighted in Lake Chapala´s waters?

pg16aHeadlines on the detection of the fierce beasts died down just as quickly as they popped up. A few blurry photos of reptiles looked real enough, but we’ve never gotten further word on the matter.

Were the crocs captured? Or slaughtered? Did they go into hiding from human eyes at some isolated shoreline spot? Was it all fantasy or some kind of elaborate hoax dreamed up to take minds off the perils of the pandemic? Your guess is as good as mine.

What I do know for fact is that once upon a time a small group of manatees were introduced into the lake. And the homely marine mammals also known as sea cows did not fare well in an unfamiliar habitat.
