It’s critical: Adopt a tree

Several weeks ago, The Guadalajara Reporter told of an “Adopt a Tree” program, whereby one can adopt a sapling from a vivero in Guadalajara called Bosque Urbano, that is giving these away and also showing you the proper way to raise one.

The downside would be that one day you’d have to explain to the tree that it’s adopted.

Anyway, Bosque Urbano’s goal is to donate 365,000 trees, one per person.  So I thought I’d get a little more intimate with the subject, since this past Thursday was National Tree Day in Mexico. That’s right, you missed it: Parades speeches, fireworks, jet fighter air shows, a spectacle.

The Reporter article stated, “climate change is provoking more frequent and intense heat waves and the task of keeping cities cooler and healthier has taken on greater urgency.” Pavements, city streets and concrete buildings absorb heat and then radiate that heat into the air, making you sweat and your make-up run.
