City Living - February 14, 2014

The second Camina Barrio (neighborhood walk), based on the Jane’s Walk concept, takes place on Sunday, February 16, noon.

The walk leaves from the Jardín de la Reforma (on Avenida Alcade and Reforma, across from the Museo de Periodismo y Artes Graficas). It will make its way to Parque Morelos on Calzada Independencia.

The idea of this particular walk is to explore “el centro que no es centro” (the center that’s not the center), or areas on the periphery of the acknowledged historic center. During the walk participants are urged to look out for and note down the deficiencies in urban infrastructure that affect pedestrians in the Guadalajara center.  While in the Parque Morelos, specialists in urban development will explain issues related to the Ciudad Creativa Digital (Creative Digital City) that will be built in the zone over the next decade.

The walk will end at El Güerito Tortas Ahogadas at Pino Suárez 279 around 2 p.m.  For more information call Alfredo Romano at (33) 1287-0423. Also see www.facebook.com/CaminaBarrio or https://twitter.com/caminabarrio.

Jane’s Walk celebrates the ideas and legacy of urbanist Jane Jacobs by getting people out exploring their neighborhoods through free walking tours.
