‘Church in a box’ on the road again to Mazamitla

On August 30, Christ Church Lakeside will continue a tradition of periodically canceling the regular Sunday service to take their fellowship to La Sagrada Familia mission in Mazamitla.

Christ Church Vicar Danny Borkowski served many years in a country where, much like old-time pioneer circuit riding preachers, he carried “Church-in-a-Box” to remote locations to serve small groups of parishioners.

Delegations from Christ Church and La Sagrada Familia met in 2012 during the annual Synod of the Anglican Church’s Diocese of Western Mexico.  The lakeside group learned that the visiting priest who normally served La Sagrada Familia was hospitalized and several months had passed since the Jalisco mountainside community had enjoyed a communion service.

Faustino Garcia and his wife, Guillerminam, who host the La Sagrada Familia services in their home, asked if Christ Church might consider “bringing church” to them.  Christ Church agreed willingly and also made plans to take refreshments, usually in the form of a picnic lunch, for the two groups to share after the service.

On August 30, the lakeside visitors will take finger foods to share and depart from Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic at 9:15 a.m. to arrive for the noon service. Newcomers, visitors and others wishing to attend should RSVP to Kay Borkowski at This email address is being protected from spambots.
