Amigo Cup 2025: A hole-in-one for education and community spirit

The greens of the Country Club de Chapala were alive with extraordinary golfing and heartfelt generosity on February 27, as the annual Amigo Cup once again proved to be a resounding success for the Kids and Their Future scholarship fund.

More than just a tournament, the event stood as a testament to the community’s unwavering commitment to empowering local students through education.

The day buzzed with excitement as golfers teed off, each swing contributing to a cause that transforms lives. Among the highlights was Tracey Bowen’s spectacular hole-in-one on the 13th hole, earning her a brand-new golf cart courtesy of Alesso Club Car. The news spread quickly across the course, capturing the spirit of the day perfectly.

While the competition was fierce, the camaraderie among participants was palpable. In the Closest to the Pin challenge, Bill Porteous claimed the men’s title, winning a gift certificate from La Nueva Posada. Doris Wakeman dominated the Longest Drive, earning gift certificates from New Look Studio Beauty Salon, while John Powers secured a bottle of tequila from O’Rourke-Lloyd Insurance. Verna Powers won the Straightest Drive, taking home gift certificates from New Look Studio Beauty Salon, and Rob Mullan received a bottle of tequila from O’Rourke-Lloyd Investment Funds. Randy Stugelmeyer emerged as the putting contest champion, winning a delightful gift basket from Pancho’s Deli Market. Special thanks to Barb Naisby, the 50/50 raffle winner, who generously donated a portion of her prize back to the cause.

Yet, the true triumph of the day was the substantial funds raised for Kids and Their Future. Thanks to the generosity of participants, sponsors, and the Country Club de Chapala, the 2025 Amigo Cup raised just under 100,000 pesos. These vital funds will directly support the organization’s mission to provide comprehensive educational assistance to deserving students.

The impact of Kids and Their Future is profound. This year alone, they have supported 56 students, including a record-breaking nine pursuing university degrees. By removing financial barriers through tuition assistance, supplies, and transportation, the organization empowers students to reach their full potential.

“Every swing, every donation, makes a tangible difference in the lives of these students,” said a representative from Kids and Their Future. “We’re incredibly grateful for the community’s support.”

The Kids and Their Future committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2025 Amigo Cup. A special thank you goes to the golfers, generous sponsors, and the Country Club de Chapala for making this event possible.
