Ajijic Rotary Club salutes new members and fellows

The Rotary Club of Ajijic honored new and distinguished members at a celebration luncheon and social held Tuesday, September 30 at D’Shanti Restaurant, with a full house of guests in attendance.

The new Rotarians welcomed to the fold are Manny Castañeda, Lisa Kingsbury, Janice Manen and Charles Shapiro, who were admitted under the sponsorship of former club presidents Carole Wolff and Santiago Hernández, and current membership chair Elly Contreras.

Elizabeth Burke-Bates, another new member who is currently out of town, will be inducted at a later date. Club President Anastasia Boyd conducted the pinning ceremony.

Equally important was the recognition of club members certified as Paul Harris Fellows for their contributions of US$1,000  or more to The Rotary Foundation. The distinction honors the founder of Rotary International and the fellowship’s namesake.

Recipients of the award included Alejandro Bernardino, Don Edgerton, David Haley and Israel Mexia, along with Ravi Chakravarthy, Rose Pareya and William Stadler, who were unable to attend the occasion.

Honored guests at the gathering were District Governor Enrique García Vidrio, his wife María Luisa Álvarez, and District 4140 Rotary Foundation Chairperson José Antonio González Río.

The Rotary Club of Ajijic, A.C. is a registered Mexican non-profit organization dedicated to sponsoring worthy community social service projects.

Members meet every Tuesday for lunch at 1 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 2 p.m. Starting Tuesday, October 7, the new venue will be Casa Lule Restaurant at Calle Ocampo 180 on the west end of Ajijic.
