Women in Mexico found a collective voice in 2019, focus ing greater attention on gender violence and women’s rights issues.
While some protests unfortunately spiraled into mild and unnecessary violence, the message was clear: Mexico’s masculine identity is under challenge. Women are more determined than ever to secure an equal role in a machista society still overwhelmingly governed by men.
In 2020: Expect the conversation on gender roles, violence and inequality to rack up further as more and more women – especially the young – latch on to a cause they can identify with.
