Baby croc found on Lakeshore

Personnel from the Wildlife Rescue Unit in Tlajomulco de Zuñiga reported the recent capture of a young crocodile on the shores of Lake Chapala, on the basis of a citizen alert.

The reptile specimen measuring approximately 50 centimeters in length was identified as the Crocodylus moreletii species usually found in fresh water habitats on the Atlantic coasts of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

No details were provided concerning the exact spot where the critter was snared. Although multiple croc sightings in and near the lake have been reported over the past 14 months, this was the first one to be caught.
