In “Tiger Within,” Ed Asner plays the full dramatic as Samuel, a lonely Holocaust survivor who begins an unlikely relationship with Casey (Margot Josefohn) a disaffected 14-year-old runaway, turned sex worker who thinks it’s pretty cool to wear a swastika on her leather jacket.
“Tiger Within,” is seen as a redemptive story about the power of forgiveness, and how unconditional love can overcome hate, fear and ignorance.
Casey, a 14-year-old mid-westerner, leaves her drunken, neglectful and ignorant mother to go live with her father in California. But when she gets there, she realizes she’s unwanted, so she takes off and winds up in Los Angeles working in a massage parlor. Samuel discovers her sleeping in a cemetery where he has gone to visit his wife’s grave. He engages her in conversation and offers to buy her a meal.
