“Un lugar sano para conversaciones productivas” is emblazoned across the menu of El Sentido, a “bar” situated steps from Guadalajara’s Templo Expiatorio. The motto seems to well express the outlook of Kurt Robinson, the 40-ish Australian who started the business just 1 1/2 years ago in a quirky upstairs venue that used to house an Oaxacan restaurant.
Robinson’s nationality and love of travel surely explain why El Sentido attracts many foreigners and orients itself to language learning, with regular conversation sessions and lessons in English, Italian, French, German and more. The late afternoon when I visited was the day many were reeling over news of the U.S. military incursion that captured Venezuela’s president—plenty to talk about.
