Lula Bistro, Guadalajara’s fine dining spot run by Irish chef Darren Walsh and his wife Clara, has been nominated by Travel and Leisure Mexico for two Gourmet Awards, to be announced later this month.
Mexico’s leading travel magazine will hand out gongs in ten categories.
Lula Bistro (San Gabriel 3030, Colonia Chapalita) is nominated for Best New Restaurant (with a maximum of two years in operation) and Best Art on a Plate. La Leche Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta is also nominated in the latter category.
Before opening Lula Bistro in Guadalajara, Walsh worked with some of the world’s leading chefs, including Gordon Ramsay, and ran his own successful restaurant in the heart of New York City. The only other Guadalajara eatery nominated for a Travel and Leisure award is the Demetria Restaurant (La Paz 2219, Colonia Americana) in the Best Hotel Restaurant. The Carolina Restaurant St. Regis Punta Mita Resort in the Riviera Nayarit is also nominated in this category.
The 41 restaurants nominated for awards were chosen by a panel of gourmands, sommeliers, food critics and chefs. Among the factors they took into consideration were the quality and flavor of ingredients, plate presentation and the price versus quality factor.
As well as Mexico City, which has the majority of the nominations, other cities with restaurants up for awards include Tijuana, Oaxaca, Monterrey, Ensenada and Los Cabos.
