Mexico has a long history of producing a slew of top-class boxers. And while Guadalajara is blessed with dozens of gyms dedicated to churning out potential champions, few big fights ever seem to take place in the city.
Now, thanks to Comude, Guadalajara’s municipal sports commission, boxing is back big time in the city. The fourth in a series of professional boxing events sponsored by Comude, featuring nine bouts, is lined up at the Gimnasio Multiusos del Parque San Rafael in Tlaquepaque on Saturday, September 3, from 7 p.m.
In the main attraction, Salvador “Bufón” Briceño will take on Raúl “El Gato” Hernández for the Mexican national title (Fecombox) super featherweight crown. Prior to the headline bout, high flyers “Chololita” Larios will fight Perla “Potranquita” Hernández in a clash that organizers say will be a thriller.
Tickets are available in advance from Transmatic at 1200-9019 or at the door, 100-150 pesos. The Parque San Rafael is at Calle Federico Medrano between San Jacinto y Manuel M. Ponce in Tlaquepaque.
The event will be televised live on the Megacable cable channel (subscribers in municipal Guadalajara only).
