Upcoming changes to the cafe on the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) grounds will allow the board to have more control over the cafe experience, said LCS President Steve Balfour.
“The cafe at LCS has always been intended as a service for members, guests and the public,” Balfour said. “A place where people can come and enjoy the lush gardens, meet with friends, or for realtors and other business leaders to meet with new customers. We want the cafe to be a highlight of the LCS experience.”
Based on a survey sent to LCS members and supporters earlier in the year, a number of comments were shared with the board, which led to the current option to work with Alejandro Gonzalez, the owner of Casa Linda Restaurante, as the new cafe operator.
A temporary cafe will be set up on the Neill James Plaza next to the gazebo over the next few weeks, offering a limited menu from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout September. During this time, the current cafe space will be remodeled to be ready for opening in October.
“This new partnership with Casa Linda will enhance the LCS experience for all our members and guests,” said Balfour. “Alejandro has demonstrated a commitment to service, quality and presentation in his very successful restaurant, and is looking forward to bringing that experience to the LCS gardens. His team is committed to listening to customer requests and input, and to building strong collaborations throughout the community.”
Continued Balfour: “Change is always something that takes time and effort. We need to focus on the benefits that can come from strong collaborations and team efforts.”
Added Gonzalez: “My team and family are very much looking forward to being a part of the Lake Chapala Society. LCS has long been a key part of the Lakeside community and we look forward to joining our efforts and moving forward. This cafe will complement our current restaurant and maintain the same standards.”
Balfour said LCS is also talking with local culinary schools to discuss how students can play a role in the cafe and advance their “on the job” training.
“Additionally, we would like to use the cafe space for cooking classes and catering services for meetings at LCS,” Balfour said.
