Traffic flowing freely as fines drop by half

This moderate approach has been adopted to ensure traffic runs smoothly throughout the games, although SVT Director Diego Monrz said officers are still cracking down on drunk drivers who put themselves and others at risk.

With traffic flowing reasonably freely, the SVT decided not to extend the suspension of classes to Guadalajara’s public schools.  All the city’s private schools are closed for the duration of the games.

The “exclusive” and “preferential” Pan American traffic lanes for athletes and logistical staff have been largely ignored by motorists, with state authorities having abandoned plans to heavily fine those who invade them. For this reason, metro-area traffic flow has not been affected as badly as many had anticipated. Apart from peak hours at the sporting venues, few traffic jams have been reported and driving in the city is relatively headache free.
