International Book Fair to welcome 3 Nobel Prize winners

Ada Yonath, winner of the Chemistry Prize in 2009, will join Shimon Peres (Peace 1994) and Mario Vargas Llosa (Literature 2010)  in a round-table discussion with former Spanish prime minister Felipe Gonzalez.

Many of the highlights announced this week center on Israel, this year’s invited country.   Among the Israeli literary celebrities attending the FIL are author David Grossman, scholar and historian Anita Shapira and bestselling novelist Zeruya Shalev.

Leading Mexican authors such Fernando del Paso, Elena Poniatowska and Juan Villoro will present new works and participate in literary and academic discussions.

A Festival of European Literature will feature conversations among invited authors, who will reflect on what they have in common and the particularities of their work.

A novelty this year will be an area dedicated to electronic books, with around 29 businesses in the field exhibiting. The public can try out  many of the devices for themselves in an interactive zone.

In total around 600 authors from 26 nations are expected to attend the FIL this year.

The FIL takes place at Expo Guadalajara from November 30 to December 8.
