Founded in 2008, the hugely popular event is now in its sixth edition and has established itself as the largest beer festival in Latin America.
Organized by independent Tapatio breweries Cerveceria Minerva and Cerveceria Revolucion, the festival is a showcase for Mexico’s burgeoning craft beer industry. Attendees will be able to sample dozens of strong and flavorsome cervezas artesanales from across Mexico, including Tempus from Guadalajara, Calavera from the State of Mexico, Cucapa from Mexicali and the Baja Brewing Company from Baja California.
There will also be a wide range of premium imported beers on offer, including Delirium from Belgium; Erdinger, Oettinger, Paulaner and Engel from Germany; Fullers from the United Kingdom and Miller from the United States. Craft beer stores La Belga and the Beer Box will also have their own stalls brimming with domestic and imported stouts and ales, while there will be taco and burger stands for those looking to soak up some of that alcohol.
The festival being a family event, there will be live music and a games area for children, who can be left under adult supervision at the kids club from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
This year the festival has relocated from the Parque Metropolitano to the Omniforum outside the Chivas soccer stadium at Circuito JVC 2800, just off Avenida Vallarta and the western Periferico beltway.
Parking is free and free buses will run from El Deposito world beer store at the Glorieta de los Caballos on Avenida Lopez Mateos and Niños Heroes. Buses leave El Deposito every two hours from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. (except on Sunday when the last bus is at 6 p.m.) and return from the Omiforum at 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m. The festival will also be running free shuttle buses from Avenida Vallarta (between the Perifeco and Aviacion); from the Periferico and Ayamonte; and from Avenida Las Torres.
Gates are expected to open around noon and close around midnight on Friday ad Saturday (Sunday around 6 p.m.). Admission to the festival is 100 pesos; children aged three to 12 enter for free. For more information visit www.festivaldelacerveza.com.mx.
