US Consulate sponsors Green Race for the Environment

Together with the American School, the Consulate hosts a family-focused foot race through Guadalajara on Sunday, May 11, 8 a.m., starting from thecchool campus at Colomos and Filadelfia in Colinia Providencia. The event is a fun way to raise funds for tree planting in the Bosque de la Primavera, as well as build support for environmental awareness in the region and around the planet.

There’s still time to participate in the race. Runners can register until the 4 p.m. deadline on Saturday, May 10 at the American School, where tables will be set up for race packet pickup and last-minute sign-ups for either the 3K or 10K race, or the 150-meter “Kid’s Sprint.” Runners receive a t-shirt, and all participants receive a medal. Registration is 250 pesos for Adults and 120 pesos for children 12 and under. Proceeds from the race will benefit a reforestation day led by Reforestamos, Mexico, A.C. If you are unable to run or miss signing up, you can still enjoy the Green Fair. Families can meet and have photos taken with “Pinino the Tree,” “Norman the Horse,” “Chiva Fighter,” and other great mascots. Booths by local and international sponsors will provide information and products with environmental focus. Admission to the Green Fair is free of charge.

“The organizers for the U.S. Consulate Green Race and Green Fair are honored to see over 70 corporations, non-governmental organizations, and civic institutions partner with us to raise over 1.6 million pesos toward this event,” said U.S. Vice Consul Dahm Choi, an event committee leader. “Our fundraising goal is to assist significantly with reforestation in the Primavera. There is tremendous interest in the Guadalajara community in investing together in healthy living, environmental awareness, and a greener future. This year, we are also observing a global theme: green cities. With smart investments in sustainable technology, forward-thinking public policy, and an educated and active public, we can transform our cities and forge a sustainable future.”

A tree planting ceremony is planned for July in the Bosque de le Primavera. More information about the event can be found online at the official USCG Guadalajara Facebook event page for the Green Race.
