Traffic cop loses cool after filmed seeking mordida

The officer, later named as Daniel Huizar, faces several charges after becoming involved in an altercation with the young passenger recording his conversation with the driver.

The video, uploaded to Facebook, shows Huizar berating the student, identified as Francisco Daniel Raygoza, and telling him he is not permitted to film him at work.

A scuffle reportedly ensued after Huizar and a colleague attempted to detain Raygoza.  He was finally arrested after municipal police were called to the scene.

However, the University of Guadalajara social sciences student was released from custody after receiving treatment at the Green Cross and providing authorities with a statement in which he explained the sequence of events and showed investigators his cellphone evidence. Later, agents of the State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) sought out Huizar to haul him off to the cells.

Huizar is expected to be charged with assault and corruption, and is likely to lose his job for “abuse of authority.”

The UdG issued a statement Wednesday regarding the “lamentable events,” calling on Guadalajara municipal authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
