“We’re seeking equal marriage (laws), the recognition of transgender people, recognition for the sons and daughters of LGBT parents and a law against discrimination,” said event organizer Fascinacion Ramirez.
Ramirez also said organizers of last year’s march had presented a petition to state authorities with similar demands but were ignored.
An estimated 1,000 people gathered at the Glorieta Minerva and made their way down Avenida Hidalgo and Chapultepec toward the Glorieta Niños Heroes, where a concert was held.
In contrast to other similar parades and marches, participants did not wear carnivalesque apparel or wigs, as organizers were aiming to “dignify” the movement in order to reflect the seriousness of their demands.
