Angry crime victim fights back with near-fatal outcome consequences

A bank customer who was robbed at gunpoint shortly after withdrawing 200,000 pesos took the law into his own hands and chased the assailants in his car – only to provoke a multiple traffic accident.

The incident unfolded in the rush hour on busy Avenida Patria outside Banorte on the corner of Ceja de la Barranca in Colonia Universidad, next to Plaza Universidad.

According to witnesses, two assailants, one of them armed, threatened the victim just as he was getting into his car, grabbing the cash he had just withdrawn from the bank. They then mounted a Texas-plated motorcycle and roared off in the direction of the Autonoma University (UAG).

The furious customer, accompanied by two other men, swung his vehicle out of the bank car park and pursued his attackers as far as the Pablo Neruda turn off, where he rammed into the back of the motorcycle.  Unfortunately, he also lost control of the car, which collided with two other vehicles and a cyclist. As the assailants went sprawling onto the tarmac, their motorcycle skidded into another vehicle, causing it to strike a fourth car.

The injured assailants were quickly apprehended. They were later treated for multiple fractures. Three others were treated for minor injures.  Police said the two attackers were from Ecuador and Venezuela.

Police questioned the driver of the car and crime victim who took the law into his own hands but released him without charge Thursday.
