Uber increases metro-area fares by 18.2 percent

As a result of January 1 increases in the cost of gasoline, online taxi service Uber will raise its prices in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, the company announced Thursday in a press release.

The per kilometer cost for the uberX, UberBLACK and UberSUV services will rise by 18.2 percent.

Uber is implementing hikes of various amounts in all 31 cities that it operates in Mexico.  Guadalajara will see the heaviest increase, significantly higher than Mexico City (15 percent). Cancun is the city with the smallest increase, at just 7.5 percent.

The Uber communique noted that its revised pricing structure is due to the government’s new policy of maintaining regional differences in the price of gas based on logistical considerations. Gasoline purchased in Guadalajara and its surrounding areas is now the most expensive in Mexico.
