Goethe Institute returns to Guadalajara

The Goethe Institute, founded in Germany in 1952 and 1966 in Mexico, is principally a language school.  In addition to its linguistic offerings, however, it has departments dedicated to German contributions in the fields of cinema, theater, dance, music and other subjects.  A central feature of the Institute has long been its library, specializing, naturally, in German culture and language.

The news of the Institute’s return to Guadalajara - which will occur later this year - coincides with the culmination of the “Año Dual”, a year of cultural exchange between the two countries which began in June of last year.  It has seen hundreds of events of various natures (musical, scientific, linguistic, gastronomic, etc) take place in 38 cities around Mexico.

Rudolf de Baey, Goethe Institute’s director, enthusiastically promoted the entity’s potential to help people start careers relating to German culture and language, adding that it also supports “projects around the world on important issues facing the participating country and Germany itself.”
