Krispy Kreme expands in GDL

Krispy Kreme has opened its second factory store in Guadalajara, with the aim of duplicating its output of doughnuts in the city.

pg5aThe U.S. doughnut and coffeehouse chain currently churns out 60,000 doughnuts a week at its factory store in the Unicenter mall on Avenida Real Acueducto in Zapopan, which are distributed to various sales points in the city and its outlying regions.

The new factory store opened last weekend and is located in a commercial mall on Avenida Lopez Mateos Sur.

Javier Rancano, director general of Krispy Kreme in Mexico, said he expects a glut of new sales locations to open in Guadalajara in the coming months.

He said his aim is to sell the equivalent of one doughnut a year to every inhabitant of Guadalajara – approximately five million donas annually.

The 83-year-old company operates ten factory stores, 56 “stand-alone” stores and 174 “kiosks” throughout Mexico, most of them on a franchise basis.
