Primavera nightmare

With 110 registered fires and 10,700 hectares damaged, 2021 ranks as the second worst year for the Primavera Forest in three decades.

In 2005, fires in the woodlands located on the western edge of Guadalajara affected 12,000 hectares.

Chivas women in final

The Chivas women’s team advanced to the final of the Liga Mx Femenil, after defeating their hometown rivals, Atlas, by a global score of 2-0 over two games. The Atlas men’s team bowed out of the Liga Mx quarter-final against Puebla, ending Guadalajara’s representation in the 2021 tournament. Chivas Femenil will play the Nuevo Leon Tigres in the two-leg women’s final, with the first game scheduled at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara on Monday, May 24, 9 p.m. and the second game in Monterrey on Monday, May 31, 7 p.m.

Tepatitlan champions

The town of Tepatitlan in the Los Altos region of Jalisco is celebrating winning the Liga de Ascenso (Mexico’s second tier pro soccer league) title. Tepatitlan were crowned champions after tying Morelia 1-1 in the second game of the final last Sunday.

Gasoline price rising

The price of regular gasoline in Jalisco reached its second highest level in the last four years in April, averaging 20.73 pesos per liter. The price of Magna gas topped 20.77 pesos a liter in March 2019.

Mexico retiree haven

Mexico and Costa Rica ranked second and third as the best places for expats to live, based on cost of living, quality of life and ease of settling in, according to the Expat Insider 2021 Survey. Taiwan topped the survey for the third year in a row. The research included  12,420 expats surveyed by InterNations, a Munich-based expat network.
