Incessant noise amplifies fiesta furor

No sooner did seasonal festivities in Ajijic commence last weekend, than questions and gripes about the noise factor became rife on local social networks. Mexican citizens and foreign immigrants alike took to social networks to argue the pros and cons of the fiesta furor.

pg3aThere were numerous posts by people wondering why local authorities are not enforcing noise control regulations and established curfews for public events. It’s a simple fact that politicians and government officials commonly relax the rules for traditional celebrations, understanding they would face considerable blowback for curtailing long-held customs and their evolution into modern times.

That perspective was echoed in lengthy commentary that circulated in various Facebook groups. The author’s message in Spanish roughly translates as follows:

“The entire community of Ajijic is informed that the town fiestas are starting, and with this also the complaints of many people. Just remind them that the fiestas already existed before they came to this place.
