Due to further construction delays, the developers of Arena Guadalajara have once again postponed the opening date of the city’s newest and largest performing arts and sports venue.
Originally slated for last year, the 20,000-seat arena, located on the northern Guadalajara ring road (Periférico), was later scheduled to open on February 22, with a concert by Mexican pop star Carlos Rivera. That event was rescheduled to April 25, with builders insisting the venue would be completed by then. However, it was clear from an exterior view of the arena that construction was far behind schedule.
The development company, Avalanz Zignia Live, has now admitted the venue won’t be ready in time. As a result, they have canceled both the Rivera concert and several others, including one planned for May featuring U.S. pop star Katy Perry.
Zignia Live—also the operator behind Arena Ciudad de México (22,300 capacity) and Arena Monterrey (17,600 capacity)—has promised full refunds to those who purchased tickets for the concerts. However, the company has not provided a revised opening date for the venue.
