Following recent municipal reforms, the Chapala city council has reinstated popular referendums to elect the administrative delegates for the satellite towns of Ajijic, San Antonio Tlayacapan, Santa Cruz de la Soledad, San Nicolas de Ibarra and Atotonilquillo.
An election date is still pending but numerous candidates have already emerged.
Nine men and women vying for the important posts in Ajijic and San Antonio aired their proposals an intimate forum held November 30 at the headquarters of lakeside’s Chamber of Commerce (Canaco).
It is expected that registered voters will be able to cast their ballots before the Christmas holiday break so that new officials may be sworn in at the start of 2013.
