Chapala primary school shines in national anthem contest

The student chorus from Chapala’s Encarnación Rosas primary school (Escuela Urbana 1066) has earned a field trip to the Guadalajara Zoo sponsored by the local government in recognition for winning first place in Jalisco’s 2014 competition for the best interpretation of the Mexican National Anthem (Himno Nacional Mexicano).

The troupe directed by Cecila Garduño was among 18 elementary level choral groups that qualified for the state finals held late last month. The panel of judges gave the Chapala choir top scores for abilities in intonation, vocalization, nuance, text and diction.

Chapala Mayor Joaquin Huerta announced the special award for the pint-size singers during a public ceremony held on Tuesday, July 8 to mark the end of 2013-2014 academic year. Certificates of appreciation were also handed out to students from other local schools for outstanding achievements racked up during the school term.
