Lake Chapala surges

Heavy precipitation and gushing feeder rivers pushed Lake Chapala’s level up a full nine centimeters over last weekend, with the bounty continuing day by day.  The Jalisco Water Commission reports the lake has gained 87 centimeters since the start of the rainy season. As of Thursday, September 8, it was standing at just over 60 percent full capacity, compared to 54.5 percent a year ago and 44.5 percent on the same date in 2014.
