Dine with the Shrine welcomes back snowbirds

The next Lake Chapala Shrine Club “Dine with the Shrine” fundraiser (to welcome returning snowbirds) will be held Tuesday, November 1, noon to 9 p.m.  at La Bodega restaurant, located at 16 de September 124 in Ajijic.

The special menu features either the house specialty, chicken Bodega, or fish filet with garlic sauce, both served with mixed vegetables, choice of potatoes or rice and a green salad, all for 130 pesos (drinks, dessert and tips not included). The Great American Songbook band will provide live entertainment from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The owners of La Bodega will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from this meal to the Shrine Club’s Children’s Transportation and Treatment Fund. Call 766-1002 for reservations.

Shriners Hospitals for Children provides treatment for orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and cleft palate. The Shrine Hospital in Mexico City examines an average of 5,000 patients and preforms about 400 operations each month.

The Lake Chapala Shrine Club – working with Niños Incapacitados and the local Family Development Agency (DIF) – identify Lakeside children who may qualify for Shrine Hospital treatment. The club arranges pre-entrance examinations to determine if the child qualifies for treatment or an operation. If so, bus tickets are purchased to send the child, mother and father to the Mexico City Shrine Hospital. Funds are also provided for food and taxi fares. Since 2006, the Lake Chapala Shrine Club has paid for 822 Lakeside family trips to the Mexico City hospital and treated another 651 children locally at a cost of 2,740,336 pesos.

Reserve your table early at La Bodega to help the Shriners provide medical treatment to Lakeside children.
