Ajijic finally granted Pueblo Mágico status

Ajijic received the official title as one of 11 new Pueblo Mágico tourist destinations at the announcement ceremony hosted by the Secretaría de Turismo Federal on Tuesday, December 1 in Mexico City. It was Chapala’s third stab at gaining the coveted designation.

pg1aPresent to receive the title on behalf of Ajijic were Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya and Jalisco Tourism Secretary Germán Ralis Cumplido.

“In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the official announcement that we have a new Magic Town in Jalisco is good news for economic reactivation, not only in Ajijic, but for all the municipalities on the shore of Lake Chapala, the largest in Mexico,” Ralis said during the event.

Ajijic now counts as the state’s ninth Magic Town destination, along with Tapalpa, Mazamitla, Lagos de Moreno, San Sebastián del Oeste, Tequila, Talpa de Allende, Mascota and San Pedro Tlaquepaque.
