The mayors of Jocotepec, Chapala and Tuxcueca are flying high at the prospect of creating a heliport circuit linking their respective municipalities to the medical emergency airlift services provided by the Jalisco Sistema de Atención de Urgencias (SAMU).
Jocotepec Mayor José Miguel Gómez López hosted a meeting held Tuesday, June 21, on the grounds of the Hospital Comunitario de Jocotepec, bringing together SAMU Director Yannick Nordín Servín, and his counterparts Alejandro Aguirre Curiel of Chapala and Reyes Mancilla Aceves of Tuxcueca. The purpose of the encounter was to clarify the specifications required for establishing safe landing spots for the SAMU helicopter ambulance in each municipality.
Afterwards, the officials boarded the chopper for a reconnaissance flyover of the area.
“This is great news for Chapala,” Aguirre declared, adding that his administration is fully committed to building a heliport to enable the air ambulance to transport patients requiring emergency care to the nearest medical facilities equipped to attend to their treatment needs.
While he has not yet indicated where the Chapala landing pad might be located, Aguirre stressed that having access to the airlift service will translate into saving the lives of many patients in critical situations.
