Lakeside charity launches One Million Peso Challenge

FoodBank Lakeside, the charity that delivers hundreds of monthly basic food packages to economically challenged local families, is facing a chronic cash shortage and is seeking the community’s help.

pg15a“Covid is largely behind us and ‘normalcy’ is upon us,” said FoodBank Lakeside fundraiser Steve Taylor, in a letter delivered electronically to the charity’s supporters on September 22. “But the bad news is, we’re perilously close to running out of money.”

To avoid having “to tell a grandma or a person with a disability or a child that FoodBank no longer can help feed them,” the charity has announced the One Million Peso Challenge, Taylor said.

During the next 100 days (until New Year’s Eve), FoodBank Lakeside seeks new supporters and greater funding from current supporters, with Taylor emphasizing that “any and all monetary donations, large or small, are welcome. Every peso or dollar helps.”
