Christmas market to set up on Chapala’s main drag

Following prolonged negotiations with City Hall, Chapala’s Unión del Tianguis Navideño has been given the go-ahead to set up for business from December 16 to 25 along the south-to-north lane of Avenida Madero on the one-block stretch between Calles López Cotilla and Degollado.

The Christmas market operated by local street merchants has been a traditional outlet for seasonal merchandise for the past 35 years.

The local government ruled against placement at the plaza this year and rejected the Union’s proposals to locate on Calle Miguel Martínez on the side of the bus terminal or at the north end of Avenida Madero.

The Tianguis Navideño will house 15 stalls for the sale of clothing and footwear, 14 for jewelry, fashion accessories, toys and other gift items, and five more for food.
