Chapala’s faithful will honor patron saint San Francisco de Asís with nine days of devotions and festivities running from Wednesday, September 26, through Thursday, October 4.

The private firm contracted by the Chapala government to collect the municipality’s solid wastes was forced to suspend service for the second time in less than a month when the landfill facility in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos once again denied access to its garbage trucks.

“I did everything I could,” declared Mayor Javier Degollado in his closing remarks for his third and final report on government activities under his watch, delivered Friday, September 14, in the absence of more than half of Chapala’s city councilors.

For well over a century visitors have flocked to Chapala to enjoy lounging on the shoreline of Mexico’s largest lake.
