Jack White cancels Zapopan gig after keyboardist dies in Puebla

Internationally-renowned U.S. rockstar Jack White has cancelled the remainder of his Mexican tour following the sudden and unexpected death of his group’s keyboardist, Isaiah ‘Ikey’ Owens. The 38-year-old musician was found dead in his hotel room in Puebla on Tuesday.

White and his band had been due to play a concert on Tuesday night at the Teatro Estudio Cavaret in Zapopan before playing one further date in Monterrey. A statement issued on Jack White’s website says that a coroner’s report determined that Owens died from a heart attack around 4 a.m. and the only drugs found in his room was “a small amount of marijuana.”

Owens was a Grammy award winning artist best known for his work with Jack White, the Mars Volta and a selection of eclectic outfits from his hometown of Long Beach, California. “It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah ‘Ikey’ Owens. He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans,” reads a message on White’s website.
