Bird flu

A new outbreak of bird flu in the state of Guanajuato has spread to 18 farms, according to agricultural officials.

More than two million chickens have been slaughtered since the outbreak was detected two weeks ago. An outbreak that began in Jalisco in June led to the culling of 22 million chickens. The virus was identified in 24 Jalisco farms, leading the federal government to declare a national animal health emergency.  The outbreak was brought under control by mid August.
