Jalisco's latest beauty queen is all smiles

Norma Consuelo Regalado Garibay, a retired teacher from La Huerta, has been crowned Jalisco’s Senior Queen (Reina de los Adultos Mayores) for 2013.

She received her award from Family Development Agency (DIF) President Lorena Jassibe Arriaga on Monday evening.

Regalado Garibay went through several municipal and regional elimination rounds to reach the grand final.  Representatives from all of Jalisco’s 125 municipalities participated in the contest.

The first prize includes a vacation in Puerto Vallarta, a designer dress, a basket of cosmetics and a course in etiquette.

Regalado Garibay has been happily married for nearly 50 years, has four children and seven grandchildren.

Jassibe Arriaga, the wife of Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval, said one of DIF’s main goals is to encourage elderly citizens to lead active lifestyles.  Another aim, she said, was to cultivate a culture of respect toward seniors in the state.
