Affected fishermen receive cash handout

The Jalisco government is providing financial compensation for the fishermen in Acatlan affected by the ecological disaster that left over 530 tons of fish dead in La Hurtado reservoir.

Some 30 fishermen will receive 1,841 pesos per month throughout the recovery period, with Governor Aristoteles Sandoval promising that the reservoir will have made a 90-percent recovery by the end of the year.

Sandoval also vowed to identify and punish those who polluted the reservoir. “Those responsible, or rather the irresponsible people who have harmed nature and damaged the inheritance of future generations, will not go unpunished,” Sandoval said.
