Covid rule changes coming on Friday?

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro is expected to announce changes to state Covid-19 mandates on Friday, February 25.

Attendance ceilings capping capacity at cultural presentations, sporting events and large-scale social events are likely to be relaxed following a meeting of his Health Board.

Alfaro offered a teaser earlier this week, saying capacity at stadiums will be increased from 60 to 80 percent.

Covid infections have declined worldwide—and in Mexico—for the third consecutive week, and federal and local governments in many countries have started to relax their protocols.

Covid cases in Jalisco are down five-fold from the height of the fourth wave registered on February 3, when 5,908 cases were officially confirmed. Hospitalizations are also down to just over 400, down from almost 1,000 three weeks ago.

Alfaro said the Health Board will be analyzing whether Easter Week’s religious events can be carried out normally.

The governor did not say if he plans to lift the requirement for vaccination certificates or negative tests to be shown at bars, casinos, nightclubs, massive events and other establishments.  It is also unlikely that he will approve any changes to face mask mandates.
