Jalisco and federal authorities have beefed up security in municipalities bordering the state of Michoacan following reports of a massacre last weekend at a wake in the town of San Jose de Gracia.
A video taken by a neighbor appeared to show gunmen storming a funeral wake and dragging at least 17 mourners into the street to be executed while standing against a wall.
The video taken from the upstairs window of a nearby house, however, is not conclusive, and authorities have not confirmed the incident, since no bodies were found at the scene. Although the video shows gunmen pointing their weapons at the mourners standing against a wall in the street, the camera jerks away the moment the shooting starts, and when it focuses back on the street, there are no bodies to be seen amid the dust and smoke.
San Jose de Gracia is located in the northwest of Michoacan, right on the border with Jalisco, just five kilometers from the tourist town of Mazamitla.
