Puerto Vallarta perfectplace for retirees

Puerto Vallarta has been named second in a list of the 15 best places in the world to retire in 2022, compiled by Live and Invest Overseas, a resource for people who want to live, retire, and invest overseas.

The estimated monthly budget required to live in there is US$1,820, compared to US$2,935 in Comporta, Portugal (first place) and US$1,180 in Cayo, Belize (third place).

Peso on top of the world

No, it’s not an Innocents’ Day tall story (see page 16), but the often-maligned Mexican peso has been the world’s strongest performing currency of 2022. On December 28, the peso-U.S. dollar exchange rate stood at 19.41, registering an appreciation of 5.4 percent (1.10 pesos) for Mexico’s currency since the start of January. As the year readied to turn, the peso was beating out the Brazilian real in second place (a 5.2 percent appreciation), the Peruvian sol in third place (4.6 percent) and the Russian rouble in fourth place (4 percent). Forecasts for 2023 are equally promising, with HSBC speculating that the peso will gain further ground against the dollar, ending the year at 19.25.  The high interest rate—the central bank raised the rate again December 15 to 10.5 percent—is the main factor for  why the peso has been one of the most attractive currencies of 2023, analysts say.
