A license plate replacement program for Jalisco-plated vehicles will start in January 2025, Governor-elect Pablo Lemus has announced.
This week, he said that the new plates will include QR codes for security reasons, in particular, so the C5 video surveillance network can recognize them. This will help in the recovery of stolen vehicles, he said
Lemus noted that the last change-over of license plates was 17 years ago and that many of the letters have faded or become erased and are almost unreadable. He described the existing plates as “old and obsolete.”
The replacement program will be subsidized by the state government, and the cost of the new plates will be significantly reduced.
Car owners will be able to pay their 2024 refrendo (car registration fee) and obtain their new plates for 900 pesos, Lemus said.
The replacement of Jalisco plates next year will be mandatory for all car owners.
